Why I believe Scotland should be an Independent Country
All my life – even as a child, I rejected the label ‘British’ as I have always felt Scottish. I have always believed Scotland should be an independent country. A better, fairer, more equal Scotland. As a child, around 8 or 9 years old, I could never understand why the News was full of stories and events from, mainly, London and very little News focusing on issues in Scotland. Growing up in a working class household in Stirling, Scotland, I felt like a second class citizen, and in 1979, I was horrified at the manipulation and outcome of the referendum.

Like the rest of the ‘YES’ movement, I had so much hope for the future of Scotland.
I, like you, was utterly devastated during the count in the early hours of
the 19th September 2014. We will all have recollections from that
campaign imprinted into our memories.

Since 2014, much has changed. All that we were bombarded with during
the Independence Referendum by the ‘Better Together Campaign’, such
as – if we wanted to stay in Europe, we needed to vote ‘NO’, uncertainty
regarding the currency Scotland would use and who can forget the
’VOW’?
And here we are, dragged out of Europe despite all of Scotland voting
overwhelmingly to remain.
